By invitation only.
Only children with the required pre-requisites are invited to take classes.
Girls cannot request to be included, they will be asked if and when Mrs Parkin deems them to be suitable.
It is essential that stress on ligaments, tendons, joints and muscles is minimized to avoid permanent injury.
Parents and children will respect this decision as considered and professional.
PRE – POINTE preparatory
This is a 1 – 3 term programme depending on the child’s physique, age and growth rate.
Girls will work bare foot and with demi-pointe shoes in a separate class.
They will also be taught how to sew ribbons and darn the platform.
An appointment for fitting demi-pointe shoes should be made with All For Dance (phone 023 9259 2844) approximately a week before term begins.
Any adornments must be removed from the ankles.
Toe nails should be kept short.
Pointe shoes are not fitted with growing room and do wear out with use but can last up to a year depending on foot type.
Once sufficient strength and technique is achieved your daughter will be given written permission to purchase full pointe shoes.
Girls do not necessarily go up at the same time as their friends but when they are individually ready.
An appointment should be made again with All For Dance.
Mrs Parkin will attend the fitting to ensure the correct size/shape is bought.
New ribbons (3m total) should be bought alongside, and a roll of toe tape and lamb’s wool.
Pads or Ouch-Pouches should not initially be purchased to go inside the shoes.
Once Mrs Parkin deems sufficient stability and strength have been achieved, girls will be permitted to perform on pointe.
Once in this class girls can, if invited, work towards Vocational exams.
POINTE WORK IS A PRIVILEGE
1) Shoes should never be danced in out of the classroom as serious injuries can occur if used without professional supervision.
2) Shoes should not be lent to others, even to simply try on, as the shoe moulds itself to the shape of the wearer’s foot.
3) Two classes a week minimum must be attended regularly or the privilege will be removed.
4) Girls are not permitted to attend extra-curricular pointe classes without express permission unless they are approved Associate classes (e.g. RBS, Cecchetti, Central, Rambert).
There are more reasons as to why girls should not go on pointe than there are.
Children are not invited if they have any of the following:
a) Insufficient: strength, technique, commitment, maturity.
b) Unsuitable: age, physique, foot shape, weight, ongoing injury or approach.
The issue of weight (too low or too high) I never raise with a child and is the parent’s responsibility to address. You are welcome to discuss this with me in private without the child in attendance.
You are welcome to discuss any of these points raised.
